Downtown Ferris Wheel on the Landing
I just read a post on Mayor Slay’s blog about a proposal for a large ferris wheel on the Landing. This would be quite interesting to see if this goes through since a majority of the big projects downtown have all gone under. I know the Navy Pier in Chicago also recently got a proposal to add a larger ferris wheel. The new ferris wheel in the STL could also be linked to the Worlds Fair in 1904.
On a side note, this would be the 2nd largest ferris wheel in North America. It would take over the 2nd spot from the Collusus at Six Flags.

“since a majority of the big projects downtown have all gone under”
Not really. More than $4 billion of new investment downtown in the past several years includes a new ballpark, hundreds of new lofts and residents, major streetscaping, plenty of new stores and restaurants, a rebuilt Federal Reserve, a new federal courthouse, and a $500 million dollar casino complex. Downtown St. Louis includes the arenas of all of the region’s pro sports franchises, a nationally recognized central library, and City Museum.
Go downtown much?

@publiceye I guess I need to clarify my statement. The majority of the projects in the past year have failed. I live downtown and love it. See my previous posts, but I know of at least 10 buildings that have gone under recently and a lot of new lofts/condo are half full so they are either holding out for a better market or switching to rentals. As a resident of downtown, I am not sure if the casino had much of an impact but I am no expert. Failures of condo units like the Laurel that are in the heart of the city really hurt in bringing together the downtown revitalization.

Does this mean St. Louis could possibly have the 2nd and 3rd largest Ferris Wheels in North America?
St. Louis – The Ferris Wheel Capital of America!!!
