Here is a link to a great article that Matt Smith posted on twitter. I have already forwarded this article to some people but thought I would make a post about it since I thought it was such well written and got such great response on it. It is great to see such a class act article written about St Louis and its stadium in such a big arena like the New York Times.
Everyone seems to think this was a mind blowing episode. To me, an avid Lost fan, this seemed like a pretty predictable episode except for a few parts. I guess the show does have to start wrapping things up at some point. The one thing that I have no clue what is going on is the deal with the Statue people. Who is this potential third group and when are we going to find out more about them? I sure hope we don’t have to wait till next season.
This was a weekend that I was looking forward to while also demising it. I was looking forward to it because it was supposed to be in the 80s plus the Cubs were in town. The Cubs are not in town over the weekend until September so I knew this might be the only warm time to go down to the ballpark for the good rivalry. The bad part was that I was just coming off a cold/flu/whatever where I was sick for the past 2 weeks. Plus (the real kicker) I had a 10 page paper due, a 10 page group paper, and presentation due for my Marketing class. I had not even started my individual paper.
I did not end up doing anything on Friday except watching NBA playoffs. I was exhausted from being sick so could not muster up the energy to do any homework.
I slept over 12 hours on Friday night. It was awesome. It was the first day I woke up feeling good in weeks. Unfortunately I did not feel like working so I went to Jeff’s for a “draft party.” Basically we drank and cooked on the grill while we watched the NFL draft and the Cards game. We then hurried to my place to meet up with a bunch of other people to go to PaddyO’s and Al’s after the game. All I can say is that it was packed and I (we) had way too much of a good time. I”l leave it at that. By the end of the night, the group of 10 guys was spread out all over the city for various reasons due to alcohol. Mike and I ended up at Harry’s because I knew some people there. It was insanely packed. I am guessing because of the Cubs in town plus it was probably the first warm Saturday of the year so everyone was out. There was attractive ladies all over the place and I ran into a lot of people that I knew. One of the highlights of the night that I can say in this blog was Mike’s (Mike #2 for some of my friends) drunkiness. He had no clue that we went to Paddyos and vaguely remembered going to Maurizo’s by himself. I went home and my friends kept strangling in through the night. I woke up to Mike talking excessively on the phone and found two girls passed out on my couches. That is a whole another story in itself.
I tried to do my papers on Sunday but was so tired from the very little sleep I got the night before. Instead I watched a lot of NBA playoffs and How the Earth was Made. I probably watched like 5 episodes. Since I am a slacker, I had to take off work to do my paper. Thankfully it is done. All I need to do is make a presentation tonight, make sure my Econ final is okay, and go to my Econ class on Wednesday and I will be done with school forever.
One word describes my weekend. It is disappointing. I have been sick since last Monday. I think it is the flu. I did not go out at all this weekend even though there was so much going on. I did not work on my 10 page term paper, 10 page group paper and presentation, nor my Econ final. I was hoping to have 2 of the 3 completed by now so I could enjoy the Cubs being in town next weekend (it looks like it might hit 80 next weekend). Instead I watched a ton of NHL and NBA playoffs, a couple Cards game, and a lot of Civilization 4. The Blues and Cards lost both games this weekend thus adding to my disappointment. At least the Lakers won which is almost automatic. I also watched Stardust on Showtime again. It really is one of my favorite movies.
I went to our first Cardinals game of the season with the group. Our seats are in the back row in the lower bowl by the right field foul pole. They are pretty good seats. They would be especially good if it happened to rain since we are under the overhang. I did drink way too much that night. We went to Paddy O’s afterwards for a little bit then went to Rue 13 for 80’s night. It was an extremely late night. I stayed in Saturday night because of that. I watched Doubt. I was not impressed. My streak of seeing bad movies continues.
The first Blues playoff game was a disappointment. I was not that familiar with Vancouver before last night’s game. I was really upset and insulted when I saw that every ESPN analyst picked Vancouver to win (most in 5 games). I did not know that Vancouver was on a similar hot streak as the Blues plus they have a super hot goalie. The Blues did not have a lot of pressure on Luongo but he did make excellence saves (as Mason did also) that provided Vancouver with the win. Overall it was a very entertaining game due to its feistiness. Jackman was really getting in the middle of everything. I believe the Blues downfall that game was not scoring on the 2 man advantage and only scoring on 1 of the many powerplays. I am also very scared of the Sedin twins. That line was skating circle around us with the help of Demitra. I thought all along that we only needed to win 1 of the first two games due to our great home crowd.
Last nights episode of Lost was pretty entertaining. Like other people have indicated, these past 3 episodes all seem to be setup episodes for something greater to come. Unfortunately, we will not find out for another two weeks since there is a “clip show” next week. Below are my thoughts on the episode:
We have been treated to a lot of new shows in the past two or three weeks. Below is what I am watching.
Tudors – I am watching this show just because there is not much else on Sundays lately. I gave up on it last year. It is okay but I am not sure how a show like this could get renewed when Rome, Deadwood, and Carnivale can not.
Unusuals and Southland – The thing that upsets me about these two cop shows is that both main characters have a rich past. We haven’t got the full details in Southland but it sounds like his daddy is rich too. So basically the only difference is that one is based in LA and the other New York … imagine that. Unusuals has more of an interesting storyline and I prefer ABC shows so this is my favorite so far. I also have branded the OC guy in Southland with his image from OC so I have a hard time taking him seriously.
Better of Ted – I did not like the first episode but I have grown to love this show. It really is funny. I like their fake commercials. With that said, I do not expect this show to make it.
Surviving Suburbia – I watch this show only because of Bob Saget. It has its funny moments but this show will not make it past the first season.
Kings – By far the best new show on TV. It has everything I like. I also like “Al Swearengen” in this role.
